Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.
Water Filtration Plant |
What is filtration?
Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.
Examples are:
- Cleaning
- Kettle
- Heat pump
- Pool
Materials
1. Filter Paper
2. Funnel
3. Cone
4. Sand
5. Pebbles
6. Container
7. Cup
Step 1
Cut the top of the bottle with scissors.
Step 2
Put the top half upside down and place it into the bottom half of the bottle.
STEP 3
Add layers of sand and pebbles into the funnel and then put the top half of the bottle.
STEP 4
Get 1 cup of dirty water and pour it into the funnel.
STEP 5
Pour dirty water into the funnel with the sand and pebbles in it.
Findings
It all happened very fast and the water went through very quickly. The liquid at the bottom was brown and had some traces of the dirty water clumps. I think our problem with this was the funnel not sticking to each side of the bottle so that was making the dirt make it's was through the funnel and straight to the bottom. Here is a photo of the end result.
Conclusion: Overall this experiment was really fun because we got to do something that I find pretty interesting. When the dirty water was going through the filter it went through very fast and the clumps in the dirty water managed to stay on top the whole time even in the end result. That happened because the rocks were stopping it.
There were about 50-60 drops per minute and at the end the colour of the water was a clear brown colour. What I learnt today was how to make a filter, I really enjoyed making it aswell . I would like to do this experiment again and try different ways to make the water clear.
