Hypothesis: I'm not sure but the colour on the paper will travel up the paper, the pink will become less in colour and weaken and colours that make pink (my colour felt) will appear further up the paper and separate from pink the original colour.
Equipment: Felt tip pen, filter paper strips, test tube, measuring cylinder and pencil.
Method:
- Draw a line across the filter paper in pencil 5cm from the bottom.
- Draw a coloured dot in the middle of the line.
- Measure out 10mL of water and place in the test tube.
- Place the filter paper in the test tube and fold over the side making sure the pencil line isn't in the water.
- Wait for five minutes for the results.
Observations: The colour travelled up the filter paper and it slowly dissolved into different colours. The pink one had hints of orange and yellow and the black had purple and blue which made a galaxy type effect.
Conclusion: I was close about the colour dissolving and creating different colours.
Evaluation: I liked this experiment because it was nice to look at and satisfying.
