WHAT HAPPENED……….
On August 24th 79 CE the volcano mount vesuvius in southern Italy erupted. A thick cloud of ash, stone and poisonous gas rained down on the Roman town of Pompeii, which stood in the path of the eruption.
The volcano was the only impact on Pompeii but the eruption also caused a tsunami and earthquake which ruined the environment.
The damage caused by the volcano also had long term effects on neighboring cities such as Herculaneum, Stabiae and Torre Aumnuziata. People eventually fled pompeii to different cities.
