Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

Water Filtration Plant

What is filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

  1.  Cleaning
  2.  Kettle
  3.  Heat pump
  4.  Pool

Materials

1. Filter Paper
2. Funnel
3. Cone
4. Sand
5. Pebbles
6. Container
7. Cup

Step 1

Cut the top of the bottle with scissors.

Step 2

Put the top half upside down and place it into the bottom half of the bottle.

STEP 3

Add layers of sand and pebbles into the funnel and then put the top half of the bottle.

STEP 4

Get 1 cup of dirty water and pour it into the funnel.

STEP 5

Pour dirty water into the funnel with the sand and pebbles in it.

Findings
It all happened very fast and the water went through very quickly. The liquid at the bottom was brown and had some traces of the dirty water clumps. I think our problem with this was the funnel not sticking to each side of the bottle so that was making the dirt make it's was through the funnel and straight to the bottom. Here is a photo of the end result.

Conclusion:  Overall this experiment was really fun because we got to do something that I find pretty interesting. When the dirty water was going through the filter it went through very fast and the clumps in the dirty water managed to stay on top the whole time even in the end result. That happened because the rocks were stopping it.
There were about 50-60 drops per minute and at the end the colour of the water was a clear brown colour. What I learnt today was how to make a filter, I really enjoyed making it aswell . I would like to do this experiment again and try different ways to make the water clear.

Holiday Story Recount

On the last weekend of the holidays I had my first netball game against Sumner/Redcliffe. I was extremely nervous because my whole family was watching me and I knew they were going to cheer me on and embarrass me on the sidelines. My game wasn’t until 1:15pm but throughout the whole day I was anxious but also excited to play.

When we arrived to the Hagley netball courts I spotted some of my friends so I went over there and trained with them a bit before the game started. My position is goal attack therefore I have to be a good shooter and also a good defender. After training for a while it was time to play, that’s when my butterflies kicked in.

I walked onto court and dazed at the other team and thought to myself “ wow they seem like good players. “ but I didn’t put myself down and all I wanted to do was play. We got into our positions and waited for the siren to go off for about 5 minutes, the awkward silence was killing me. Then the siren finally went off and the intense game begun.

After the game I was very tired. We lost but it was our first game of the season  and we still had a lot to learn and practise. Our team was still pretty pleased of themselves because we tried our hardest and had a positive attitude throughout the whole game and at the end.
